Buy Art Prints You’ll Love For Years

Finding the right wall art for your home can take a bit of time. As a matter of fact, many new homeowners stress out about it for quite some time before making their decision. At Illusion Photograph, we think there’s a better way to do things. That’s why in today’s blog we’d like to share a few tips for how to decorate in such a way that you actually love the space you live in.

At the end of the day, your home is your safe space. It’s the place you go to rest, relax, and recharge. It’s where you sit down to enjoy dinner with your loved ones. It’s the place that allows you to kick back and catch up on a few episodes of your favorite television show. It’s where you lay your head down at the end of the day. That means it should look great, don’t you think?

How to Get the Most From Your Home Decor

Take Your Time

We mentioned above that it takes quite a bit of time for many people to make a decision about how to decorate their house, but that time is filled with worry over how they’re going to get it done. You’re probably not a professional interior decorator, but fortunately you don’t have to be to have a home that feels cohesive and brings you joy when you walk through the doors.

If you’ve just moved into your space, simply take your time figuring out where things are supposed to go. It might take a few days--or even a few weeks--but the good news is that it will all come together. Consider your home a work in progress where you’re constantly refining your masterpiece. New items will come into your space and you’ll find that you are redefining what works in your home. That’s okay!

On the other hand, if you’ve been in your home for awhile, it might be a little trickier. Not to fret though, because we have a few tricks. Speaking of which...

Rearrange the Furniture

This trick works equally well for new homeowners and those who have lived in their homes for quite some time. If you’ve been in your place for a while and you need to mix things up a bit, start by rearranging the furniture. The key to this process is not letting it stress you out! Start small if you have to.

Perhaps you don’t want to make a big change, but you do want to do something new. You could make it as simple as moving a few of your books into the bedroom and creating a small display on your bedside table. Add a painting to the wall in your bathroom. Create a coffee table display using a few of your favorite knick knacks and top it off with your favorite magazine or coffee table book.

Consider Your Other Accessories

One of the best tips we can give is to think about the other items in your home and then consider how everything works in conjunction with everything else. Achieving decor unity is not always the easiest thing to do, but take your cues from the colors you already have around your home and use that color palette to inform the rest of your decorating decisions.

Not liking the colors you find in your home? Mix it up with a few new throw pillows on your couch, a new blanket at the end of your bed, or a couple of decorative candles. A few small changes can all add up to make a big difference in how you feel about the space you’re in. Don’t let anything overwhelm you, but instead look for opportunities to make the most of your home so you can get the most enjoyment out of it. If it’s not bringing you happiness, don’t hesitate to ditch it.

Look for Inspiration

We’ve already talked about looking to your own home for inspiration, but we live in a wonderful digital age where inspiration is a quick click away. Whether it’s over at Pinterest or in a magazine you borrowed from your local library (or even digitally--did you know that you can check out books and magazines onto your tablet using your library card?), there has never been a better time to find inspiration.

Simply find a room that you like, identify what it is that you like about it, and start making those changes in your own home.
